  1. If they only has Jimmy Smith playing the organ at my local skating rink when I was a kid, I'd be a much better skater. Jimmy Smith's organ playing is truly sublime and the trio of he, Stanley Turrentine and Quentin Warren is fantastic. This one is a true gem/5(3).
  2. Prayer Meetin', an Album by Jimmy Smith. Released in July on Blue Note (catalog no. BLP ; Vinyl LP). Genres: Soul Jazz, Hard Bop, Jazz. Featured peformers: Jimmy Smith (organ), Stanley Turrentine (tenor saxophone, guest), Quentin Warren (guitar), Donald Bailey (drums), Alfred Lion (producer), Rudy Van Gelder (engineer), Reid Miles (cover design), Francis Wolff (photography).
  3. A classic Blue Note meeting of two of the label's top talents in the early 60s – Hammond hero Jimmy Smith, and the up-and-rising Stanley Turrentine on tenor! Turrentine's simply great at this point – playing with a raspy edge on the bottom of his tone, sounding dark and mysterious – not nearly as sweet as in later years – and Smith is wonderful too – still with.

  6. This, folks, is an album that should never be reduced to background music. Jimmy Smith and Stanley Turrentine are both exquisite soloists, and both are at their most melodic on this record (Smith plays a bit more sparingly on this album than he often does).4/5(11).
  7. Prayer Meetin' is an album by American jazz organist Jimmy Smith featuring performances recorded in and released on the Blue Note label. The album was rereleased on CD with two bonus tracks from the same session.
